Is it tough to learn Vedic Astrology?
For some people, especially novices, learning Vedic Astrology might be intimidating. This is owing to the large range of topics covered by this subject. Not only must they comprehend a large number of concepts, but they must also remember the diverse meanings of many Signs, Houses, and Planets. How long does Vedic Astrology take to learn?
Working from home, you can complete the Vedic Astrology Diploma Course in up to 150 hours. There is no set time limit for finishing this course; you can study it whenever you want, at your own pace. This is a Level 3 course with 150 CPD (Continued Professional Development) points available.

Who is the astrologer’s forefather?
Alan Leo, a notable British astrologer, author, publisher, astrological data collector, and theosophist, was born William Frederick Allan (Westminster, 7 August 1860Bude, 30 August 1917). He is considered regarded as “the father of contemporary astrology” by many people.
After a period of decline at the end of the 17th century, his work sparked a renaissance of astrology in the Western world. Leo was a fervent theosophist who included many of the theosophist’s theological principles into his astrology, such as karma and rebirth. He took advantage of the Theosophical Society’s extensive international network to publish, translate, and promote his work throughout Europe and America.
How long does it take to become proficient in astrology?
Astrology is a branch of science. It’s similar to a doctor’s treatment for diagnosing a problem or condition.
Any astrologer can read astrology, the Vedic system, and make forecasts, but real-life difficulties are unique, and are not talked about in books.
So, from my perspective, it’s all about how much knowledge you have from books, as well as how many charts you’ve gone through to try to figure out the exact mapping of life events. By analyzing charts and providing precise solutions to clients with correct explanations.
It could take months or perhaps a year, but it won’t be as simple as six months or a few weeks. It’s like being in the middle of a sea. Don’t pass judgment based on the appearance of the waves.
A great astrologer is a lifelong learner, and the more charts you see, the more you understand it.
In India, where can I learn astrology?
The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Institute of Astrology in Delhi is the best among the schools that offer astrology courses and undertake research on the topic. Legendary astrologer Shri K.N. Rao founded this institute’s current astrology programme in 1987. When this institute celebrated its silver jubilee (25 years) in 2013, more than 20,000 students had finished its astrology course. Aside from that, the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Education Trust in Mumbai and Bangalore offers astrological studies. The following links will take you to their individual websites where you can learn more about the subject.
If you live outside of Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, or Bangalore, you can learn astrology at ICAS (Indian Council of Astrological Sciences) facilities. Dr. B.V. Rama, the late founder of this prestigious institute, established it in November 1984 with the goal of establishing an All India Body for the organized propagation of astrology. ICAS currently has over 40 facilities across India that offer courses on the subject. You can learn more about it by visiting their website, which is shown below.
However, these institutes are limited by the fact that they are not accredited by any federal or state government-run university. So, while these private institutes will provide you with the best knowledge and faculty to learn astrology, you will not receive any credential or degree that is recognized by any university. So, if you want to earn a degree in astrology, you’ll have no alternative except to enroll in a UGC-accredited university that offers astrology courses.
What’s the difference between astronomy and astrology, and how do you tell the two apart?
Astronomy is the study of celestial bodies outside of the earth’s atmosphere, such as planets, stars, asteroids, and galaxies, as well as their attributes and relationships. Astronomers conduct their study and observations. Astrology, on the other hand, is the notion that the positions of the stars and planets have an impact on how events unfold on the planet. Astronomy is the field to consider if you’re interested in the solar system and planets, other celestial objects such as asteroids and comets, other galaxies and the rest of the universe, what makes up space, and the possibility of alien life or space travel.
What is the most effective method for learning astrology?
Astrologer Kelly Surtees joins the podcast in this episode to discuss some recommendations for learning astrology and eventually becoming an astrologer.
The conversation is based in part on a post I did on my blog several years ago titled 10 recommendations for understanding astrology. (Update 8/18/2018: watch also my video on five short beginner astrology recommendations.) I wanted to revisit the subject in order to dig a little deeper into some of the suggestions and add a few new ones.
Kelly and I take you from the very first steps you need to take in order to begin your studies in astrology, assuming you know nothing or very little about it, all the way to the intermediate and advanced phases of learning about the subject, during the course of the show.
The end result is a 3-5 year framework for how to become an astrologer, and by the end of the program, we’ll have gotten the listener to the stage where they should be able to transition into professional astrology practice.

Kelly’s three key astrological learning suggestions are as follows:
- Readbooks/blogs/websites/journals.
- Make contact with other people who are interested in astrology. Meetups, local astrology groups, and online astrology groups are all options.
- Educate yourself and get official training. Choose a person you can meet in person or an online course that interests you.

- If at all possible, double-check your birth time.
- Learn the symbols for the zodiac signs, planets, aspects, and more.
