On the one hand, receiving this letter, especially in an unrelenting block of big neon text and shouting caps, was a genuinely disturbing experience. There are four elements that make up the 12 zodiac signs. water, fire, air, and earth are the four elements that make up the universe. Almost everyone in my friend’s family, including myself, isn’t an earth sign. Under the pretext of astrology, they were stating that they were removing practically everyone who cared about them.
On the other hand… I think I’ve figured it out. And I understand. All of these features, however, are personal sensations, actions of perception that are completely intangible. Earth is a genuine, physical entity. Beyond our particular psyches, Earth exists as something we can physically hold and be held inside. Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn are the three earth signs, and they tend to be stable, grounded, and realistic.

The element of earth has traditionally been associated with matter, the biology of human existence, fertility, and the terrestrial. It’s “turning on for work,” having a “phone voice,” and avoiding the topic of your kinky sex life at the dinner table with your Evangelical grandfather. Our identity is fleeting, changing all the time. Gemini simply embraces its natural duality a little more forcefully and openly than the other of the zodiac signs.
