Which colors should you choose?
It’s best to start determining your complexion type and the colors that will look best on you by determining if your skin tone has a pink or yellow base, according to Ms Murray.
If you have a pink undertone, you should stick to cool colors. Warm colors suit you best if you have a yellow undertone.
You’re on the correct road if the colors don’t bleach you out or make you seem ill. Colors that work for you should ideally brighten your features, make your complexion glow, and make you feel beautiful in the color.
Poor lighting in changing rooms in fashion stores can alter the appearance of garment colors as well as your complexion, so keep this in mind when shopping.
It’s crucial to try on your clothes without makeup and in natural light when you get home.
But, before you rush out to the stores to try on every shade of blue, there is a technique to figure out what color scheme is best for you.
These color palettes are organized by the four seasons and are based on a system taught by Ms Murray at the Australian College of Professional Styling, which picks a color palette to suit your skin.
What color do the days of the week correspond to?
The journalist wanted to put me to the test. He insisted on my writing down my favorite color for each day of the week and month of the year. Monday is a foggy pink, Tuesday is a darker pink, Wednesday is mulberry red, Thursday is a deep blue, Friday is yellow, Saturday is green, and Sunday is stainless steel.
He put me to the test again a year later. Naturally, I got them all right because I’d been surrounded by these hues for as long as I could remember. The journalist reluctantly admitted that I, too, must be a synaesthete, and published an article claiming that there were now two people’suffering from this unfathomable ailment.’
The majority of synaesthesia books are too technical for laypeople; however, I discovered John Harrison, a distinguished neurologist and research fellow at Cambridge, to be an exception. What piqued my interest about his insightful insights was his admission that, despite spending so much time studying the issue, he can only picture what it’s like. This is comprehensible because a synaesthete’s message is nearly impossible to convey, no matter how articulate or colorful they are. I’ve tried dozens of times to explain my colors by saying they’re lined up like a tongue-and-groove fence, with each plank of wood being a different color. However, the colors aren’t like those in a Dulux catalog. They’re not completely clear, but they’re misted, like the skin of a dark grape. Although some of the Dutch grape painters come quite close to my Thursday, the colors could never be replicated in real life.
What effect do the colors have on me? Someone suggests that we meet on Monday. The very mention of Monday conjures up the dark pink panel in my imagination. What I’ve never understood is how you think of Monday if you don’t have synaesthesia. A popular response is, “I visualize a page in my diary.” However, the majority of respondents claim that they haven’t considered anything. I can’t imagine not being able to visualize anything when thinking about anything abstract. Surely you’d feel disoriented and lost?
One of the reasons synaesthetes go undiscovered is that it’s a condition that’s not widely discussed: if you claim your November is a duck-egg blue, you’ll receive some strange glances. Many synaesthetes have always assumed that is such an insignificant aspect of their being that it is unworthy of discussion. My sister-in-law and I, who have chatted about a wide range of topics over the previous 50 years, have never brought it up. But, by chance, the subject came up recently.

Sagittarius is blessed with good fortune. In fact, three of our four astrological experts believe it is the luckiest of all the zodiac signs (our fourth expert put it in their top three.) So, why is this the case? It has to do with the fact that Jupiter, the planet of luck, good fortune, abundance, and power, rules the sign, according to best-selling romance astrologer Anna Kovach.

The good fortune of Sagittarians may even be a self-fulfilling prophecy. “They’re upbeat enough to make the best of any situation,” Kovach says. “Perhaps it’s because they honestly feel they can accomplish anything they set their minds to.”

Consider three aspects of your own coloring when choosing colors for your wardrobe: your skin color, your eye color, and your hair color. Your best-worn hues in clothing and cosmetics are revealed by your personal coloring. Some people even utilize their unique coloring to help them choose the colors they want to use in their home.
The colors you choose to wear play a vital role in achieving a pleasing appearance. Colors that are flattering to the complexion can brighten it and draw attention to the color of the hair and eyes. Colors that aren’t attractive to the complexion might make it look tired, sallow, or unhealthy.
You can, however, wear any hue in the appropriate place, in the correct amount, and in the perfect mix. While certain hues may not appear to be unappealing, they are not your finest choices. It’s crucial to take the time to figure out your best colors if you want to:
- Make your hair’s highlights stand out.
- Make your eye color stand out.
- Make a stylish wardrobe.
- Spending money on ugly apparel is a waste of money.
Your own coloring can help you decide which color family, brightness, and intensity to utilize in your outfit. If you’re unhappy with your skin tone, try to disguise it with wardrobe hues that will soften it.
There are no hard and fast laws when it comes to color, but there are some guidelines to follow in order to create a pleasing wardrobe color plan. The most significant aspect is skin color. When your hair or eyes are very striking, though, they should take precedence over your skin tone.
You must first discover the underlying tone of your complexion before you can start looking for your most attractive colors. Is it hot or cold? Yellow, peach, or red undertones are seen in warm complexions, whereas pink, violet, or blue undertones are found in cool complexions (Figure 1).
Analyze your skin without makeup to discover your basic hue. Use natural or incandescent lighting instead than fluorescent lighting, which can affect the appearance of colors. To avoid extraneous colors interfering, wear a light, neutral hue or wrap a white towel around your shoulders.
Examine your face in the mirror now. What are the most noticeable colors you notice? Don’t let a tan fool you. Undertones of yellow, red, pink, or blue can be found in most skin, regardless of race or tan. Look at the inside of your wrist or your tummy if you can’t figure out what hue your face is.
Consider the color of your hair and eyes after establishing your basic skin tone (warm or cold). These three hues are Your personal coloring is made up of your skin, hair, and eyes, and should be taken into account while choosing clothing and cosmetics. Colors that flatter your skin usually work well with your hair and eyes, although this isn’t always the case. In such circumstances, choose a hue that complements your skin tone.
If you’re not sure about your fundamental coloring, experiment with a few different hues to see how they alter your appearance.
To learn more about each color, ask yourself the following questions:
- What does my complexion look like? Is it dull, lively, or something else?
- Is it true that this color makes skin flaws and wrinkles less visible?
- Does the color bring out my hair’s highlights?
- Is this color highlighting my eyes?
Colors from one groupwarm or coolwill be more flattering in general. This reveals whether your complexion is naturally warmer or cooler. Avoid that color in your clothes and beauty items if it generates shadows on your face or if your face reflects it.
You have a cool complexion if your skin has pink, violet, or blue undertones, and your clothing and cosmetics should have similar undertones. Warm undertoned colors (yellow, peach, or red) are less flattering on your skin.
Colors with the same undertones will appear better on those with warm skin tones and complexions. If you have a warm complexion, stay away from hues with cool (blue) undertones in apparel and cosmetics.
Figure 2: Primary (red, blue, and yellow) and secondary (violet, green, and orange) colors on a color wheel. On the color wheel, complementary colors are precisely opposite one another; for example, green is the complement of red.
To improve the color of your complexion, try the following methods:
- Next to it, place the color’s complement (Figure 2). Green with red hair, for example, or purple with blonde hair.
- Use a neutral color to complement the color. For instance, a cream person with dark brown hair.
- Near it, repeat a huge amount of the same color at a lesser intensity. Sky blue with clear blue eyes, for example.
- In a tiny amount, repeat the same color in a brighter intensity. Emerald green scarf with green eyes, for example.
To minimize the impact of a personal color:
- Complementary colors should be avoided (Figure 2). When the complement purple is worn, sallow skin appears more yellow.
- Use a lot of color with a higher intensity. Bright crimson with auburn hair, for example, or bright yellow with blonde hair.
Review:
- Colors that flatter the skin and bring out the highlights in the hair are ideal. Colors that are unflattering drain color from the complexion, making it appear sallow and unhealthy, or they emphasize unattractive shadows or red undertones.
- The wearer, not the color or colors being worn, should be the focus of attention. Because of their delicate complexion, natural blondes should avoid wearing bright colors. Colors that are too vivid or too brilliant should be avoided by those with a neutral complexion.
- Avoid using bright intensities of colors that are already present in your skin.
- When people with cool coloring wear cool colors, they appear more appealing, whereas persons with warm coloring find warm hues visually pleasing.
- Strong differences in personal coloring, such as black and white, can be worn by those with strong contrasts in personal coloring.
- Vivid intensities, strong color contrasts, monotones, and beige or grays that are close in value should be avoided by people with minimal contrast in their personal coloring.
- Colors may look better on fabrics with irregular, drab textures than on materials with shiny, smooth textures.
- White intensifies color, black de-emphasizes color, and gray neutralizes color with neutrals.
- With the right quantity of hue and arrangement, even the most ugly color can be worn. Combine it with a dark accent, a complementing color, or a lighter color close to the face.
After you’ve discovered your skin tone, you can choose the ideal apparel and cosmetics for you. The goal is to appear as handsome and healthy as possible. Wearing the proper colors can assist you in accomplishing this.
