Is Lucy going to reclaim the Aquarius key?
Fans will be aware that Lucy and Aquarius have been apart for quite some time. When Aquarius sacrificed her key to save Lucy during the ‘Tartaros’ arc, the two were separated. The emotional scene elevated the couple’s love-hate relationship to a new level, but Aquarius wasn’t gone for good.
Aquarius made a special appearance during the ‘Alvarez Empire’ arc when she protected Lucy from Brandish. The summon received special permission from the Spirit King to assist Lucy, and Aquarius departed once more, leaving behind a promise. Lucy learned from the mermaid that she has a new key that might be found on any continent today. Aquarius told Lucy as she returned home that she is looking forward to the day she may be summoned again, and it appears that Lucy will come across her friend’s new key during her extraordinary journey.
Is Lucy able to destroy the Aquarius key?
The key is shown in the Manga as a regular golden key with the Water Bearer’s crest, two parallel waves, stamped on its bow. The key is still represented as gold in the anime, but it is more delicately constructed. The bow is shaped like an upside-down urn and has two handles on either side. The Water Bearer’s crest is stamped in blue on the white center of the bow, with a heart on the base. The key’s blade is shaped like a mermaid’s tail, with “fins” emerging from either side of the bow’s base, and four more at the tip curving towards the center.
Though most spirits are summoned in water, there may be exceptions in extremely unusual instances, like as when Lucy summoned all of her spirits at once, or when all twelve Gold Key spirits were summoned to close the Eclipse Gate.
At Aquarius’ request, the key was destroyed so Lucy could defeat Tartaros and save her allies from Alegria by summoning the Celestial Spirit King.
The Water Bearer Key has been reforged, according to Aquarius, a year after Lucy shattered it to call the King. It currently resides somewhere in the world.

Jackal destroys Leo and Virgo with a single blow of his Curse, sending them each back to their realm. Lucy is no match for the Demons, especially because Aquarius is also seriously hurt. As she struggles to stand up, Jackal’s Curse torments her even more. Torafuzar then tries to kill her, but is forced to flee when Jackal threatens him. Lamy then grabs the female, but instead of causing Lucy explode, Jackal snatches Lamy’s head and causes it to explode, prompting Lucy to doubt his morale toward his teammates.
Jackal is going to kill Lucy, ignoring her, but she is saved in the nick of time by Aquarius. Aquarius eventually suggests that Lucy summon the Celestial Spirit King after she discloses that she is unable to destroy the Demon. When Lucy asks how he may be summoned, Aquarius reveals that he can only be summoned when one of the Gold Keys is broken and the Celestial Spirit of the shattered key has a close link with their master. As Lucy expresses her displeasure, Aquarius advises her to shatter her key because it will be the only way to fight the enemies. Lucy defends her decision and begins to cry at the prospect, but Aquarius assures her that she will not die despite their inability to see each other again, briefly recounting her previous encounters with Lucy.
Despite her affection for her Spirits, Lucy smashes Aquarius’ key to call the Celestial Spirit King after being put under a lot of strain by Aquarius and her desire to save the friends she’s finally made. Before departing, Aquarius thanks Lucy for everything she’s done for her and recalls her time with her. She says she’ll miss her. The Celestial Spirit King descends from the sky and smashes Plutogrim with his sword, dealing terrible damage and causes it to crash down on the soil as Aquarius vanishes and her key is destroyed. While Jackal is pondering what Lucy has done to cause her to cry, Mard Geer finds himself face to face with the Celestial Spirit King himself.
