In an alternate version of the story, Ganymede is kidnapped by Eos, the goddess of the morning, because she has a thing for young males; Zeus then kidnaps him and employs him as a cup-bearer. Cecrops I, a king of Athens who sacrificed water instead of wine to the gods, is another person associated with the water carrier.
