Gemini season has arrived, and if we’re being honest, it’s more than a coincidence that some of the finest rappers are born under this astrological sign. Of course, there are skeptics, as with any other topic of discussion, but the musicians themselves like to elevate being a Gemini due to the prominent use of lyrics in tracks or even album names.
I limited it down to two Geminis who are well-known in the realm of Hip Hop, in keeping with the “Twins” sign.
Kanye West, dubbed Yeezy, would be the first to come to mind. Aside from being known for his unique attitude, he exudes an evident sense of self-assurance. He raps “the ultimate Gemini has survived” while listening to “Saint Pablo.” The implication is that he understands who he is and what he stands for, and he has no qualms about displaying it through his music. In a recent interview with Steve McQueen, Kanye West discussed a variety of topics. Astrology was one of those things. (That’s right, we’re going there.) The rapper disclosed that he shares the same zodiac sign as Tupac, Biggie, Prince, and Miles Davis: Gemini.

The only constant in Dylan’s equation is his refusal to accept the labels that have been placed on him. He describes his dissatisfaction with his status as “a representative for a generation I understood nothing about…I felt like a piece of meat tossed to the dogs” in his new autobiography, Chronicles.
Dylan has always presented himself as a moving target in order to avoid the expectations placed on him, giving notoriously slick interviews. When asked what his main message was during the height of his celebrity in 1965, he replied, “Eat.” Was he any good as a singer? ‘A mathematical singer,’ says the narrator. What were the themes of his songs? ‘It’s about four minutes long,’ says the narrator.
His evasiveness wasn’t merely a reaction to his enormous celebrity. Dylan had erased his past as a struggling 19-year-old folkie in New York, altering not only his name but also describing himself as an orphan and a hobo, when the truth was that he was a decent middle-class Jewish kid from the Midwest.
Nothing about this is surprising from an astrological standpoint. Robert Zimmerman was born under the sign of Gemini, the zodiac’s most nimble, restless, and uncertain sign. Dylan was concerned with arcane notions when he wrote those lines in the mid-1970s. It was the era of Renaldo and Clara, his muddled symbolist film, with references to Rimbaud and tarot cards on the back cover of Desire. Astrology appears to have played a role. He’s still playing identity games today: his life will be portrayed by seven different actors, including women, in the upcoming biopic I’m Not There.
Apart from the perplexing Twins, Dylan’s horoscope contains a number of additional topics. His Moon (emotional side) is in obstinate Taurus, indicating that he is quite possessive of his woman, regardless of how much he chases after others. Suzie Rotolo (the girl on the cover of Freewheeling) and his first wife Sara were both Scorpios, the sign opposing and complimentary to Taurus. Joan Baez, a Capricorn, was too ‘heavy’ for Dylan’s vivacious Gemini attributes Bob used to mock Baez’s seriousness on stage and in song and she couldn’t match his Scorpio lovers’ enthusiasm.
Pluto (indicating his vast riches) and Uranus, the planet of independence, are both strong in Dylan’s birth chart. Bob had always been a ‘strange’ kid, a nonconformist who followed his own path regardless of what others thought. This inevitably resulted in difficulty (he was sent to a special ‘corrective’ school for a period of time). His small hometown couldn’t contain him, and neither could the folk movement in which he became a leading figure. Dylan’s brilliance as a musician and lyricist altered popular music, and rock music struggled to contain his talents as well.
