Leo clubs offer Lions the chance to mentor and develop young leaders while promoting a dedication to volunteerism. By getting involved with a Leo club, Lions can motivate and excite the group’s members as well as raise the sponsoring group’s visibility in the community and draw new members like students, parents, and families.
Do you want to sponsor a Leo club through your Lions club? To start a new Leo club in your area, follow the six procedures listed below.
Decide whether the new Leo club will be community- or school-based, or whether it will be Alpha or Omega.
Find out the names of Leos from schools, colleges, places of worship, youth organizations, friends, and family.
Answer inquiries about the criteria for Leo club membership, the affiliation with the sponsoring Lions club, and Leo service projects as well as the concept behind the Leo Club Program. Invite young people who might be interested in joining the Leo club by giving out the Alpha Application for Leo Club Membership (Leo50-A) or the Omega Application for Leo Club Membership (Leo50-O).
Set up a Leo club formation meeting to choose club officers, talk about potential initiatives, adopt the club’s constitution and bylaws, and decide where and when meetings will take place.
Fill out the Leo Club Organization Report (Leo-51) and sign it legally. Return it to the Leo Club Program Department with a list of the original members attached. It may take four to six weeks to complete the certification process.
The sponsoring Lions club should schedule a meeting to present the Certificate of Organization and elect Leo club officers when the Leo Club Organization Report form has been approved. An installation ceremony will officially launch the Leo club.

Financial Obligation
The Leo club organization fee is $100 USD or its equivalent in the local currency. This one-time charge consists of:
- The expenses incurred in processing the Organization Report for the Leo Club
- Organizational Certificate
- Kit for Leo club officers
- Sponsor uniform for the Leo club
- Each first Leo club member received a leo lapel pin.
A $100 yearly Leo club sponsor levy, or its equivalent in other currencies, is also charged to Lions clubs. Leo Club Program materials, mailings, club record upkeep, communications, prizes, and program resources are all covered by the levy. To get levy credit for the current year only in the event that a Leo club is dissolved, the Leo Club Termination Form (Leo-86) must be submitted to the Leo Club Program Department by October 31.

Leo clubs are an approved program of Lions Clubs International and are sponsored by Lions clubs.

The Leo Club Program is what?

What makes it the “Leo club”?
William Perry Woods established Lions Clubs International on October 24, 1916 in Evansville, Indiana. Under the direction and control of Melvin Jones, the organization’s secretary, Lions Clubs International later developed into an international service organization.
Jones, a 38-year-old entrepreneur from Chicago, advised his fellow club members to think beyond business concerns and consider improving their communities and the world. The Business Circle of Chicago, Jones’ organization, concurred. An organizing meeting was conducted on June 7, 1917, in Chicago after reaching out to similar organizations around the country. The Business Circle subsequently joined one of the invited organizations, the “International Association of Lions Clubs,” and later that year, at a national convention held in Dallas, Texas, those present: (1) adopted a Constitution, By-Laws, Code of Ethics, and an Emblem; (2) established “unselfish service to others” as a core value; (3) unanimously elected Woods as its first president, effectively securing his leadership for the organization’s first two years of existence.
“We Serve” is the Lions’ motto. Among the various activities offered by the local Lions Club are those that promote diabetes awareness, youth outreach, international relations, environmental issues, and programs that promote sight, hearing, and speech preservation. Discussions about sectarian religion and party politics are prohibited. Liberty, Intelligence, and Our Nations’ Safety are sometimes represented by the abbreviation LIONS.

A one-time US$100.00 organization fee for the Leo club is required of Lions club sponsors. A Certificate of Organization, a Leo club sponsor kit, a Leo club officer kit, and Leo lapel pins for each charter member are all included in this cost.
Additionally, to fund the administrative costs of the Leo Club Program, Lions clubs are required to pay an annual US$100.00 Leo club levy for each Leo club they sponsor. The president of the sponsoring Lions club must submit a completed Leo Club Organization Report (Leo-51) to the Leo Club Program Department following the formation of the new Leo club and the election of the club officials. The date that this report is examined and approved at headquarters is the new club’s official certification date. Depending on the time of year, the chartering process could take up to 4-6 weeks.
Yes. A person must be between the ages of 12 and 30 to join the Leo club. The Alpha Leo clubs are geared for young individuals between the ages of 12 and 18. Yes. Leo clubs at schools are frequently required to have a teacher advisor. A Lion co-advisor should be chosen if the faculty member is not a member of the sponsoring Lions club in order to continue to have a close relationship with the Lions club.
Yes, multiple Lions groups may work together to support a single Leo club. On the Leo advisory committee, the Lions club sponsors will be equally represented. To act as the ongoing point of contact for Leo club billings and administration with International Headquarters, one Lions club sponsor should be chosen. A single Lions club is permitted to sponsor an unlimited number of Leo clubs.
Yes. An approved Lions club activity is Leo clubs. As a result, the activity and/or administrative account of the Lions club may be used to pay Leo dues and assessments. Likewise, either account may be used to pay for the Leo club’s overhead costs.
Indirectly. All fees and charges pertaining to its Leo club are the responsibility of the sponsoring Lions club (s). Some Leo clubs do, however, reimburse the supporting Lions clubs for these costs.
A Leo club does not have an account with the organization because it is a sponsored activity of a Lions club. If permission is obtained from the Lions club president, secretary, and/or treasurer, Leo club purchases may be charged to the sponsoring Lions club’s account. Current Leo club officers and officers of the supporting Lions club can use MyLCI for Leos. A Leo club advisor must be reported annually by the sponsoring Lions club president or secretary, either electronically with MyLCI or using the Leo-72 report form. For the Leo club adviser and Leo club president to have access to MyLCI, the sponsoring Lions club must give them a special email address. The email address must be unique because it is used to identify members and cannot be the same as another email address we have on file.
Leo club secretaries can use MyLCI, the online reporting system, to submit monthly membership reports. Reporting on Leo membership is optional.
Reports on service activities can be submitted online via MyLion by Leo club presidents, secretaries, and advisers. The district governor can sanction the creation of a Leo district if there are six or more officially recognized Leo clubs in the Lions district. The council of governors may sanction the formation of a Leo multiple district if there are ten or more Leo clubs with more than 100 Leo members in a Lions multiple district. No, Leo clubs are exempt from the status quo. If a Leo club goes dormant, the Lions club sponsor has the option of canceling the Leo club or continuing the sponsorship in expectation of a future restructuring. Until the Leo club’s headquarters office gets the Leo Club Termination Form (Leo-86) from the sponsoring Lions club, the club remains active.
When the sponsoring Lions club maintains the status quo, a Leo club is not immediately impacted. The Leo club is given a 180-day “grace time” to locate a new Lions club sponsor if the sponsor Lions club is subsequently canceled before the Leo club is also canceled. The Leo club will be dissolved if a replacement sponsor cannot be found in the allotted 180 days.
A Lions club may lend its sponsorship to another club’s Leo club. To do this, the present sponsoring Lions club officers must send a letter rescinding sponsorship of the Leo club to the Leo Club Program Department. A letter accepting sponsorship of the Leo club and the ensuing financial obligation must be sent by the new sponsoring Lions club officers. The new sponsoring Lions club needs to be a member of the same Lions district as the previous sponsoring Lions club and in good standing.
Yes. Leo club members are listed as insured on the policy. If the Leo club is found legally liable, the coverage covers third-party injuries as well as damage to third-party property up to a maximum of US$1 million per incident.
