If Eren loses control while in Titan form, Levi plans to cut him out of the neck, severing his human limbs, which would regenerate back in any case. Eren, on the other hand, is unable to change, and his bites on his hands do not heal. The Squad decides to put any future experiments on hold.
Eren reaches over to pick up a spoon one day while drinking tea with them and accidently develops a partial Titan body. Levi is threatened by the alarmed Squad, and he must diffuse the situation. Eren is told by Levi not to take their actions personally and that they are acting in good faith. Levi’s entire squad punishes themselves and apologizes to Eren for acting on assumption after Hange reveals why Eren triggered his Titan form.
Levi and his men are commanded to ride in the safest part of Erwin’s formation during the 57th Expedition Beyond the Walls. When they are unexpectedly attacked by a horde of Titans on their right flank, the formation changes direction toward the Titan Forest, with Levi’s unit taking the centre route.
His troop begs Levi to give them orders once the Female Titan approaches, but he continues to ride forward and look straight ahead. Eren desperately wants to transform and attack the Female Titan, but Petra and her allies persuade him to trust them instead, and Eren hesitates. Levi assures Eren that he is not alone in his desire to transform, and that no one can know the right decision until they have taken it. Levi advises Eren to do anything he wants and believes he will not be disappointed. Eren then announces his total confidence in his squad’s success, and they continue on their way through the Forest. The Survey Corps is now able to capture the Female Titan.
Levi is soon isolated from the rest of his squad. He reunites with Erwin and prepares to wrest control of the Female Titan from the human at her nape of the neck. He and Mike attack her and try to cut her hands, but she has the ability to harden her skin, which they discover. After Erwin orders the cannons to be filled with explosives and pointed towards the Female Titan’s wrists, Levi taunts her with threats of violence, saying he would like to confront her in her human form over the deaths of many of his warriors. The Female Titan begins to roar in return. Titans attack her from all sides and eat her shortly after. Levi and the rest of the Survey Corps elite attempt to shield her from the Titans on Erwin’s orders, but they fail due to the sheer quantity of Titans. Erwin issues an order for the Corps to return to the Karanes District. The steam from the Titan bodies, on the other hand, will make it difficult for the rest of the Survey Corps to detect the signal flares, according to Erwin. He then thinks that the human trapped inside the Female Titan might have escaped, and he instructs Levi to resupply his gas canisters and knives.

Levi then proceeds to slash through the Female Titan’s facial muscles, prompting her to open her lips and release Eren, using the momentum gathered from the previous strike. He seizes Eren and departs with Mikasa, whom he chastises for putting her “special friend” in danger for the sake of vengeance. As he walks away, he glances back at the battered Female Titan, who is visibly astonished to see it crying.
The Survey Corps receives a nasty response from the population as they enter Karanes after their failed mission. Petra’s father approaches Levi and reveals that she wrote to him frequently. He tells Levi that he is concerned as a father about Petra’s decision to devote her life to him because she is still young and has her entire life ahead of her. Levi continues to walk silently ahead, oblivious to what is going on around him. Eren is summoned to the Capitol for a trial to determine his destiny a few days later. Levi, Erwin, Eren, and the other survivors reunite in the old Survey Corps headquarters beforehand. Armin explains his notion concerning the true identity of the Female Titan. Levi, who is still injured, does not take part in the upcoming operation in the Stohess District; he is only seen with Erwin during this phase of the arc.
