1. How do you think of yourself?
Romain Virgo is a Jamaican reggae performer from St. Ann. Now I live in Kingston, the epicenter of reggae music. I believe that music is my life, and that it is what defines my success.
2. How long have you been making music?
I’ve been singing since I was a child. But I believe I made a breakthrough through a high school choir competition in Jamaica called All Together Sing. In 2006, I entered the Rising Stars competition, which is akin to American Idol. I won in 2007. I’ve been recording music with some producers in Jamaica since then. Donovan Germain and a few more renowned Jamaican producers. My first song, or at least my first significant song, was most likely called “Feel Good Riddim’s “Mi Caan Sleep” I now have two albums out and am working on a third.

When did Romain Virgo begin his career?
Romain Virgo, a reggae musician born in Stepney, Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica in 1990, rose to fame as a 16-year-old candidate on the televised singing competition show All Together Sing. At the age of 17, he won the Digicel Rising Stars competition, earning a large financial award and a recording contract with Greensleeves Records. In 2007, Virgo was barely out of high school when he started cutting tracks and scoring hits with his style, which was greatly influenced by vintage lovers rock and roots reggae. His self-titled debut full-length was released in 2010 by VP Records, followed by The System in 2012 by the same label. Virgo’s reggae remix of Sam Smith’s “Stay with Me” was a huge hit in 2014, garnering millions of internet listens and climbing the charts. LoveSick, his third album, was released in 2017.

Ce’cile grew up in the Jamaican towns of Porus and Mile Gully, spending the majority of her childhood in Mandeville, where her grandpa had previously served as mayor.
Ce’ Cile was introduced to music by her father’s friend, Michael “Ibo” Cooper of the reggae band Third World, and released her first single, “Beat of Her Heart.” She infused her own flavor into traditional reggae and steered it toward dancehall. Steven Ventura, the owner of Celestial Sound Recordings, became aware of her in 1995. Then came a period when she worked as a studio manager and recorded a number of demo tapes. She’s also worked as a backup vocalist for a number of bands, as well as writing and producing songs with Jah Mason and Chrisinti.
In 2001, she had her first major hit with Sean Paul’s tune “Can You Do the Work.” This song was eventually included on his Atlantic Records album Dutty Rock, which went on to sell over two million copies in the United States and earn a Grammy Award. She signed with Delicious Vinyl Records in 2003, but was never given the opportunity to release an album. Instead, she collaborated with other musicians to release songs. She departed the label in 2005 and toured Europe with T.O.K.
