On August 5, 1935, Leo Burnett established the Leo Burnett Company, Inc. in Chicago. He had three clients at the time. The organization established a branch office in New York City in 1944. The creator donated all of his voting stock to a charitable foundation in February 1967. Billings were “nearing $250 million” at the time.

The agency finished acquiring D.P. Brother & Co. on March 20, 1967. The founder passed away on June 8, 1971, at the age of 79.

Burnett and D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles announced the formation of BDM on November 3, 1999. Bcom3 was promptly given the name BDM. Roger Haupt was chosen CEO, and Roy Bostock was named chairman.
