Leo clubs encourage young people to engage in social service activities as a way of growing as leaders. To start and sponsor a Leo club, they are reliant on a Lions club. Members of the Leo club are referred to as “Leos.” They work on numerous projects involving health care, the elderly, kids, individuals with disabilities, literacy and education, and self-improvement. By organizing fundraising projects, Leos can raise money. They may collaborate on projects with another Leo club, a sponsored Lions club, or a third party group. Leo clubs are an approved program of Lions Clubs International and are sponsored by Lions clubs.

Answer inquiries about the criteria for Leo club membership, the affiliation with the sponsoring Lions club, and Leo service projects as well as the concept behind the Leo Club Program. Invite young people who might be interested in joining the Leo club by giving out the Alpha Application for Leo Club Membership (Leo50-A) or the Omega Application for Leo Club Membership (Leo50-O).
Set up a Leo club formation meeting to choose club officers, talk about potential initiatives, adopt the club’s constitution and bylaws, and decide where and when meetings will take place.
Fill out the Leo Club Organization Report (Leo-51) and sign it legally. Return it to the Leo Club Program Department with a list of the original members attached. It may require four to six weeks to complete the certification process.
The sponsoring Lions club should schedule a meeting to present the Certificate of Organization and elect Leo club officers when the Leo Club Organization Report form has been approved. An installation ceremony will officially launch the Leo club.
Financial Obligation
The Leo club organization fee is $100 USD or its equivalent in the local currency. This one-time charge consists of:
- The expenses incurred in processing the Organization Report for the Leo Club
- An organizational certificate
- Kit for Leo club officers
- Sponsor uniform for the Leo club
- pins for each initial member of the Leo club
A $100 yearly Leo club sponsor levy, or its equivalent in other currencies, is also charged to Lions clubs. Leo Club Program materials, mailings, club record upkeep, communications, prizes, and program resources are all covered by the levy. To get levy credit for the current year only in the event that a Leo club is dissolved, the Leo Club Termination Form (Leo-86) must be submitted to the Leo Club Program Department by October 31.

The Leo Club Program was first sponsored by the Lions district in 1964. Its reach extended beyond Pennsylvania and the USA. By 1967, the program had expanded to over 200 clubs across 18 nations, and it had been designated as Lions Clubs International’s official youth program. The Leo Club Program rapidly expanded the following year, reaching 918 clubs in 48 countries by the end of 1968, more than quadrupling in size. Currently, when you join Leos, you join a global organization with more than 6,391 Leo Clubs and more than 159,775 members that operates under the sponsorship of Lions Clubs in 141 countries.
