Molpadia wound up in Castabus, where she took the name Hemithea and spent many years as a local goddess. Parthenos made her home at Bubastus, where she was revered as a local goddess. Parthenos was a daughter of Apollo who created the constellation to honor her death at a young age, according to another legend.
According to another Greek legend, Virgo is the Athenian maiden Erigone, daughter of Icarius. Virgo hanged herself in sadness after Icarius was slain by his shepherds in a drunken frenzy, while her dog Maera hurled herself off a cliff in grief.
