What is the relationship between Darcy and Tory?
Darcy, born Gwendalina, and her twin sister Tory, born Roxanya, were born eighteen years before The Awakening to Hail and Melissa Vega, the King and Queen of Solaria. Darcy is the younger twin, having arrived at the world eleven minutes and three seconds after midnight.
Merissa recognized that her children were in danger before she died, so she sent the twins to the mortal world to grow up as changelings. Melissa grabbed the twins and exchanged them for Darcy and Tory Gomez, mortal twins. Lionel Acrux used Dark Coercion to find out where she and Hail were in the mortal realm just before they died.
Lionel used the information he extorted from Merissa to track down the twins’ changeling family house and set it on fire in an attempt to kill them so they wouldn’t be able to claim the Throne of Solaria. The twins’ changeling family was murdered, but the girls, who were immune to fire thanks to their Order, escaped and were discovered in the ashes just minutes after he left.
The twins were placed in foster care following the fire. They didn’t spend much time in any of the foster homes. Some foster parents claimed they were troublemakers who were difficult to parent, while others claimed they were merely doing it for the money. Pete and Darla were their most recent foster placement. Darla left Pete two months before their sixteenth birthday. He was uncaring and harsh. He kicked them out the day before they turned eighteen since he wouldn’t be paid to foster them any longer.
They began renting a small, run-down apartment with no bed and only a pull-out couch. Darcy began buying and selling unwanted stuff from students at her school for a modest profit, while Tory began stealing motorcycles to supplement their income. They barely made enough to get by.
Is Tory and Darius a match made in heaven?
Cursed Fates is essentially a collection of life lessons.
It’s sad that Tory and Darius being Star-Crossed was the cause for it, but we can’t deny that it has an impact on everyone around them.
Tory learns to forgive Darius once he realizes that there are more important things in life than power.
Seth, Caleb, and Max learn the same lesson from Darius after seeing the consequences of their deeds in their brother’s eyes and behavior.
And as for Darcy, I believe her trip and the lessons she has to learn are on their way.
With what happened to Orion and the ending of this book, I expect the next book to focus on her becoming stronger – both physically and mentally – on her own.
In any case, I’m looking forward to starting the next one after finishing this one.
