Aquarius then excitedly embraces Lucy, explaining that another Water Bearer key has appeared somewhere in the earth, and that the Celestial Spirit King momentarily opened her gate, allowing her to save her. After clarifying to Lucy that Grammi did indeed have her key, she turns to Brandish, and Aquarius reunites with her in a funny manner. Aquarius then tells Brandish that Lucy should not be punished for Layla’s transgressions, and that Layla never killed Grammi; she then transports the two to Star Memory, a vital repository of all Celestial Spirits’ memories. Inside, she reveals the scheme between Zeref and Lucy’s ancestor, Anna Heartfilia, to send five warriors into the future to defeat Acnologia. She goes on to say that Layla opened the Eclipse Gate four hundred years later to make sure it was working correctly, and that if an entry and exit aren’t taken care of, the Grand Magic Games scenario could happen. Layla couldn’t contact Grammi, who possessed her key, and so couldn’t gather all twelve Zodiac Keys to open Eclipse, so she augmented her key with her life force, according to Aquarius. After witnessing Grammi reconcile with Layla and return her key, the girls all witness Zoldeo murdering Grammi. Aquarius tries to tell Lucy one last vital thing as Lucy consoles a distressed Brandish, but Happy comes through the home door, screaming for help for Natsu, who has suddenly stopped moving.
Cana and Porlyusica then visit the infirmary, and Aquarius deflects Cana’s question about why she is there. Porlyusica then diagnoses Natsu with a malignant Anti-Ethernano Tumor that will kill him if not removed quickly, commenting that no surgeon in Ishgar can remove it, and Wendy and Sherria can’t do anything about it either. When Brandish offers to use her Magic to lessen the tumor for them, Aquarius grins at the young woman. Aquarius arrives to retrieve Lucy after Brandish is returned to her cell, but she tells Brandish that she hopes their paths meet again; when she doesn’t get an answer, she yells at her and gets the response she wants. After that, she and Lucy go to a balcony, where Aquarius tells Lucy that her key might be on any of the world’s continents, but she won’t tell her where it is. Is Lucy about to be abandoned by Aquarius?
Fans will be aware that Lucy and Aquarius have been apart for quite some time. When Aquarius sacrificed her key to save Lucy during the ‘Tartaros’ arc, the two were separated. The emotional scene elevated the couple’s love-hate relationship to a new level, but Aquarius wasn’t gone for good.
Aquarius made a special appearance during the ‘Alvarez Empire’ arc when she protected Lucy from Brandish. The summon received special permission from the Spirit King to assist Lucy, and Aquarius departed once more, leaving behind a promise. Lucy learned from the mermaid that she has a new key that might be found on any continent today. Aquarius told Lucy as she returned home that she is looking forward to the day she may be summoned again, and it appears that Lucy will come across her friend’s new key during her extraordinary journey.

Following that, Natsu and Happy see a source of light shimmering in the distance and decide to pursue it, only to become targets of even more assaults. Meanwhile, Erza and the others are being attacked by the Celestial Spirit Beast, which is preventing the Mages from approaching it. Erza suggests that they try to eliminate the energy-generating stalks just as the monster stops attacking, appearing to be trying to keep up with the pace due to the tremendous damage Natsu has caused inside its body.
While Erza and others are able to demolish some of the beast’s exterior body, Natsu and Happy are able to reach its energy core and watch the Celestial Spirit King being tied to it. They try to break the bindings, but the Celestial Spirit King is drawn closer and closer to the gigantic purpleish sphere. Happy drops Natsu down to talk to the Celestial Spirit King after understanding that the 13 chains clasped firmly around the Celestial Spirit King’s body each represent one of the ‘Zodiac’ Celestial Spirits. To Happy’s dismay, Natsu then proceeded to jump into the core in order to feast on its strength. At the same moment, Erza and others fight the newly altered beast, hoping that Natsu and Happy will save them all – just as the Fire Dragon Slayer decimates the Celestial Spirit Beast’s inner core, causing it to explode.
The Mages are concerned about Natsu and Happy for a brief while, but Erza quickly rescues them from the ruins, praising the Dragon Slayer for his efforts. The Celestial Spirit King then appears, restoring normalcy to the Celestial Spirit World. Those who have been transformed into constellations have also returned, much to everyone’s delight. Everyone then looks for the Celestial Spirits, and it isn’t long before they appear, having all successfully returned to their original forms. Lucy rushes to Virgo, but the Celestial Spirit is perplexed by Lucy’s tears, as she has no recollection of the encounter. Meanwhile, Natsu greets Loke, who, despite his lack of recollection, displays his normal womanizer-like behavior. At that point, the Celestial Spirit King addresses his guests, remarking that the recent events had felt like a nightmare to him, before thanking them. Hisui then approaches the king, apologizing for what has occurred while stating that she did what she needed to do to rescue the human realm. Lucy is met by her Celestial Spirits before the Mages leave, and she receives their keys once more.
Lucy writes in her notebook on the recent events in Magnolia Town, noting that everyone’s life quickly returned to normal, albeit something had changed – her sentiments toward the Celestial Spirits are becoming stronger.
