The scattering of electromagnetic radiation (of which light is a kind) by particles with a considerably shorter wavelength is referred to as this scattering. Sunlight is dispersed by the particles in the atmosphere, and the light that reaches the ground is known as diffuse sky radiation. Though only approximately 1/3 of the light is scattered, the shortest wavelengths scatter most easily. These shorter wavelengths correspond to blue colours, which is why the sky appears blue to us. The water molecules absorb all of the light’s red wavelengths, causing it to reflect blue. Shallower seas appear ‘less’ or lighter blue than deeper waters because less absorption equals less reflection.
