Usher Raymond IV is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor who was born on October 14, 1978. Born in Dallas, Texas, he was raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, before relocating to Atlanta, Georgia. His mother entered him in local singing competitions when he was 12 years old, and he eventually caught the eye of a music A&R from LaFace Records. Usher, his self-titled debut album, was released in August 1994. With the release of his sophomore album My Way (1997), he rocketed to stardom in the late 1990s, spawning his first Billboard Hot 100 number-one song, “Nice & Slow,” as well as top-five singles “You Make Me Wanna…” and “My Way.” The number-one singles “U Remind Me” and “U Got It Bad” were from his third studio album, 8701 (2001).
