What are the requirements for astrology?
Astrologer Kelly Surtees joins the podcast in this episode to discuss some recommendations for learning astrology and eventually becoming an astrologer.
The conversation is based in part on a post I did on my blog several years ago titled 10 recommendations for understanding astrology. (Update 8/18/2018: watch also my video on five short beginner astrology recommendations.) I wanted to revisit the subject in order to dig a little deeper into some of the suggestions and add a few new ones.
Kelly and I take you from the very first steps you need to take in order to begin your studies in astrology, assuming you know nothing or very little about it, all the way to the intermediate and advanced phases of learning about the subject, during the course of the show.
The end result is a 3-5 year framework for how to become an astrologer, and by the end of the program, we’ll have gotten the listener to the stage where they should be able to transition into professional astrology practice.
I’ve included an outline of some of the subjects covered in the program below, but please visit the original blog post linked at the top of the page for a full article with all of the links.

What can you expect from an astrology consultation?
- Birth Chart Analysis: This form of reading (also known as a natal chart) is astrology 101 since it displays the exact location of the planets at the time of your birth. It gives you insight into your personality, strengths, shortcomings, passions, and motivations (for better or worse).
- Transit and Advancement: Do you want to know where you are today in your life and how you’ve grown and matured mentally over the years? Then this is the reading for you. A Keen counselor will go over all of the planetary transits that are currently affecting your life as well as future developments with you.
- Couples Reading: As the name implies, this form of reading aids in the exploration of a couple’s relationship. Your sun (personality), moon (emotion), ascendant/rising (soul) signs, as well as your date of birth and any other corresponding themes between your birth charts, are all included.
- Astro therapy is a means to obtain insight into specific difficulties that affect your relationship so that you may move forwardor noton mutual terms based on recommendations from your astrological charts. A trustworthy and experienced psychic, whatever of the sort of reading you receive, will never make decisions for you or your partner. Only you have the power to determine what lies ahead.
What do Aries like to get as a gift?
Self-care goods such as meditation tools, weighted blankets, and spa treatments, he says, make excellent gifts for an Aries (we normally associate calming things with the sensitive water signs!). This bright red body scrub is a homage to the Aries zodiac sign.
Is astrology relevant in romantic relationships?
What is your zodiac sign? Does it make a difference? You could believe that scientists are above such inquiries, but you’d be mistaken. In 2007, a team from the University of Manchester published “Ten million marriages: A test of astrological “love signs.” They looked at 10 million weddings using UK census data and inferred astrological signs based on the couples’ birth dates.
According to United Academics, these same-birthday pairs are most likely merely errors on the paperwork. When the birthday oddity is removed, there is no effect at all. The following analysis is included in the study:
This study found that an astrological sign had no bearing on the likelihood of marrying and remaining married to someone of a different sign. For decades, popular astrologers have pushed the concept of ‘love signs,’ or the compatibility of partners with specific birthdate combinations. However, if the almost 20 million married people in England and Wales are any clue, lonely hearts who obsess over the zodiac are wasting their time.
One thing the study didn’t take into account was how horoscopes may affect a relationship. It might affect a woman’s relationships with non-Leos if she truly believed she was meant to be with a Leo. Reading horoscopes, however, appears to have minimal effect on a woman’s real conduct, according to a study published in Correlation in 2001. Only 15% of women indicated they would alter their behavior based on their horoscope. However, the survey discovered that many people take astrology quite seriously. According to the researchers,
The results of the survey, in general, confirm that astrology has a significant impact on women’s life. Seventy-two percent do not believe astrology is mere superstition, and over ninety percent say they research the sun signs of persons with whom they have ties. In love, 78 percent had read a book on their sun sign. Despite the fact that only 15% claimed they would change their behavior based on what they read in a horoscope, these findings suggest that astrology can impact women’s behavior in a variety of ways.
While the position of Venus has little to do with the success of your marriage, horoscopes in the back of women’s magazines may have more influence than anyone wants to admit.
What is Islam’s position on astrology?
Astrology is the study of celestial bodies’ movements and relative placements, which are thought to have an impact on human affairs and the natural world. According to historian Emilie Savage-Smith, astrology (ilm al-nujm, “the study of the stars”) was “by far” the most popular of the “many activities aiming to predict future occurrences or perceive hidden phenomena” in early Islamic history.
Despite Islamic prohibitions, some medieval Muslims were interested in studying the apparent motion of the stars. This was partially due to their belief in the importance of the celestial bodies, and partly due to the fact that desert inhabitants frequently traveled at night and relied on knowledge of the constellations for navigation. Muslims needed to determine the time of prayers, the direction the kaaba would face, and the correct orientation of the mosque after the arrival of Islam, all of which helped give a religious impetus to the study of astronomy and contributed to the belief that the celestial bodies had an impact on terrestrial affairs as well as the human condition.
The criteria for Islam’s attitude on astrology are laid out in Islamic jurisprudence, the Quran, the Hadith, Ijma (scholarly consensus), and Qiyas (analogy). The idea is further differentiated into that which is either halal (authorized) or haram (forbidden) (forbidden). The view that astrology is forbidden by the authorities, as enshrined in the Quran and Hadith, is shared by all Islamic sects and academics.
What method do you use to read Astrocartography?
You’ll feel the orb of influence of a planetary line up to 400 miles even if you’re not directly on it. The farther you walk away from the planetary line, the more energy lessons you will receive.
There are additionally points that target a specific spot on your astrocartography map when longitudinal and latitudinal lines cross, as well as crossover sites when longitudinal and latitudinal lines intersect. When planetary lines come close together or cross directly, they form an entity.
When many lines are combined, a richer tale is told. I’ve been studying astrology and astrocartography for 12 years and now offer astrogeography readings tailored to your specific requirements and interests, as well as a deeper look into your unique soul’s history in the world. More information regarding my services can be found here, but let’s get back to deciphering your map!
What are some of the advantages of astrology?
Astrology has been shown in studies to significantly impact and even validate a person’s self-concept, as well as improve their confidence in their unique characteristics. In short, astrology’s ruminative nature stimulates self-reflection, allowing people to better understand themselves and their surroundings.
