The rat hopped off the back of the ox and crossed the finish line first as the animals approached the other side of the coast. The first year of the zodiac was named after the cunning and smart rat, with the ox taking second place. After the ox, the tiger came in third. The small bunny was the fourth to arrive. He hopped on stepping stones and floating logs to get to the shore quickly.
“Why didn’t you win the race, Mr. Dragon, when you could fly? The Jade Emperor enquired.
“I stopped to make it rain since the people and animals in the northern region needed it,” the dragon recounted, “and when I returned, I observed a small rabbit on a log in the water.” So, to get the log to the riverbed, I produced a puff of wind.
